Alright Pinecrest people, lets be honest. How many of you have been over to the Dadeland Marriott lately? Why, should you wonder, is there any reason to take that two minute drive from our cozy little village to a hotel?
Well, if you want some of the tastiest food and to experience whats got to be one of the best values in town, check out Whitneys at the Marriott, for lunch, dinner or better yet, brunch. In fact, I wish I had inquired about the Bar Mitzvah packages before I had booked my affair at the Biltmore. Oh well, maybe Friday night dinner. Whitneys prices and selection - amazing. The food, delicious. The staff, ready to please. Very kid-friendly, too. Robert Leclerc, the French Canadian executive chef, knows the flavors and foods that will really please your palate and pocket. For example, everyday there is a fabulous business buffet lunch with three main courses, pastas, cold salads, incredible soups, cold and hot meats and delicious foccacia and pita breads. With soft drinks, coffee, tea and freshly made desserts, this buffet, at $13.11, is an all inclusive deal, suitable for any vegetarian or meat lover. "We are known for the highest quality fish, chicken and meat," Chef Leclerc said. "Only certified Angus beef, the highest grade juicy and tops in tenderness." Enticing selections can also be ordered off the menu. Pinecrest businessmen (especially those at Datran) have discovered these incredible meals offered daily at the Marriott. Its especially good if youre watching your waistline the staff caters to Atkins eaters and offers many salads, grilled vegetables, nutritious and low fat items. "Light and elegant" is the kitchen philosophy. The chefs will be happy to prepare your dish anyway you want it. Free valet is a plus, here too. Leclerc and his renown award-winning sous chefs also are known for their delectable roasted duck, crab cakes and specially prepared local fishes. There are five specials offered for dinner every night. "Our philosophy is to please the guests,"said Leclerc. Like to eat early? Diners will especially like the Marriotts newly reinstated, "Early Bird" special. Free valet parking (for all diners) makes the price of $11.95 - $13.95 for a choice of entrees like Prime Rib, Fish of the day or Roast Chicken with stuffing and mashed potatoes especially pleasing. And it all includes salad, breads, dessert and coffee. Wow!! Need we talk dessert? The Marriotts own pastry chef has a reputation for his delightful confections. I enjoyed a berry birdnest made out of slivered almonds, sugar, and all the other "bad" but good stuff, filled to the brim with blue berries and raspberries flavored with Grand Marnier. YUM!!! Youve probably have heard about the esteemed "Brunch at the Biltmore." Well, according to more than a few food connoisseurs, brunch at the Dadeland Marriott is equal or better in their offerings. For $21.95 adults and $14.95 for the kiddies, you can enjoy waffles, eggs benedict, omelets and eggs of every description. Theres also Nova, Whitefish, shrimp, salmon, carving stations, desserts - over 110 dishes in all. Thats hard to beat, especially with all the champagne you can drink. And the dessert table spans the entire room! Not bad for a Sunday eating expedition. Its also time to let the cat out of the bag about the Marriotts Thursday Sushi night and Friday Tapas night (free) at the Mariott Bar from 5-7 p.m. Sip your drink, savor a California roll and enjoy soothing music, offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Oh, and ladies - buy one drink, get one free. Good thing the hotel is so near by. What else can I say? There are beautiful meeting and function rooms for parties of any size. I checked out the rooms decor, lighting and carpets, which were really done nicely. Clean and crisp.
