Many months prior to its opening in April 1999, Florida Savings Bank, the new savings institution in Pinecrest, wanted to get the community involved in an important facet of any business, the logo.
So bank president Robert L. Bonnet and vice president Dianna L. Romero, decided to get a local school involved. They contacted Palmetto Senior High School and the commercial art department students. Art teacher Mr. Jackson inspired his students to be creative and take into account the banks themes of quality customer service and courtesy.
Out of hundreds of entries, Florida Savings Bank chose a first place winner and two honorable mentions, all of whom are 1999 graduates. The final logo utilized some of the ideas presented. Contest winner was Mike Renteria of Perrine who won a $500 savings bond. He currently is employed at Wild Oats Market and will be entering Miami-Dade Community College to study art. He is a musical artist as well, playing bass guitar in a rock band called The Out Crowd. David Fano and Phyllip Kyrk each won a $100 savings bond. Florida Savings Bank is located at 8181 SW 117 St. (Old Suniland Post Office). It is an OTS federally-chartered savings institution and deposits are all FDIC insured. |
