Revelers will celebrate the sixth annual Oktoberfest on Alcazar Avenue in Coral Gables (between LeJeune Road and Salzedo), on Friday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 17.
Oktoberfest hours are 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday. The Oktoberfest tradition began in Munich in 1810 and is now celebrated throughout the world. Restaurateur and special events promoter Harald Neuweg, owner of Mozart Stube Restaurant and Satchmo Blues Bar & Grill brought the celebration to Coral Gables in 1994. Oktoberfest will showcase a street festival, childrens activities, a giant beer tent with seating for over 1,500, culinary delights from Germany and Austria, and a raffle for two round trip tickets to Munich or Vienna. Proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets will go to the University of Miami School of Music. The three days of live music will feature German and Austrian bands "Gifti Und Die Wahnsinns Fuenf," "Die Tiroler Pfundskerle" and the marching band "Musilkverein Siegendorf" from the wine region of Burgenland in Austria.
