Pinecrest resident manages Hospital's Telemetry unit
By Ivette Fernandez

Margot Wombacher has been a nurse since 1958. She was trained in Germany as a pediatric nurse. She new then she wanted to be in a field to help people, and nursing was a natural choice for her.

She presently works at South Miami Hospital as a nurse manager for the Telemetry Unit. She is responsible for overseeing all the unit’s personnel, budget and helping patients and their families.

Originally Wombacher had no plans to work. She expected to be a wife and mother. But after coming to Miami to live, her husband became a patient at South Miami Hospital. Being in the hospital environment again, she decided to take the steps to become licensed in the United States.

She started working as a nursing assistant and attended Miami-Dade Community College’s nursing program and obtained her license. She began working for South Miami Hospital in 1976 full time as a staff nurse and was later promoted to manager.

What she enjoys most about her work is "helping other people get better."

Wombacher has lived in Pinecrest for over 23 years. She has a lot of wonderful things to say about the community, "It has a lot of rural character. It is very pleasant. It is both city and country."
