One
of the highlights of the academic year took place at Pinecrest's Gulliver
Preparatory School earlier this month as 59 students were inducted into the
year 2000 edition of the National Honor Society.
Becoming an NHS member is an exceptionally high honor for
students, requiring hard work and diligent studies, and generally denotes a
young man or woman bound for higher education and headed for a leadership
role in society. For membership, students must maintain a 3.33 grade point
average, establish themselves as campus leaders and be of good character. A
faculty council evaluates the students' applications and taps them for
membership in the society.
"The 1999-2000 school year has been an active and
successful one for Gulliver's National Honor Society," said Silvia
Fisher, campus co-sponsor of the group. "We hosted five major events
and several smaller ones that all contributed to the rich fabric of the
community."
During the April 18 ceremonies, new officers for Gulliver
Prep's NHS chapter assumed their posts during a candlelight ceremony. Eric
Blacher assumed the presidency, Jason Ross became vice president, Jason
Salstein stepped into the secretary's post, Lara Karl took over as treasurer
and Vanessa Robinson became historian.
Of the Gulliver Prep students inducted, 13 are seniors, 20
are juniors and 26 are sophomores.
The seniors are Sherene Azar, Lauren Breeden, Adolfo Bullrich, Lindsay
Davis, Jennifer Dellis, Canessa Fravel, Samantha Gilewicz, John Hamer,
Christina Kerdel, Joshua Schwadron, Matthew Sitkowski, Bijan Razilou and
Gabriela Zadolf.
Juniors inducted were Andrew Aguirre, Jordi Barguno,
Elizabeth Benki, Jessica Feingold, Caycie Flitman, Jessica Franklin, Michael
Garcia, Charles Gomez, Monica Gomez, Manuel Lopez, Leonardo Matos, Alex
Messianu, Andrew Nevel, Vanessa Peters, Ana Maria Sanchez, Patricia
Schmiedigen, Michael Silber, Nathalia Siqueira, Randi Spector and David
