To all women out there, are you tired of waking up in
the morning and rummaging through your closet to find something to
wear? Do you find yourself tired of the same pair of jeans and the
same black cocktail dress?
Admit it, you want to look like a million bucks, feel comfortable and
be able to wear fashion that goes from baseball games to work meetings
to a night out on the town.

The original A Nose For Clothes store in Pinecrest
If this is you, then you are A Nose For Clothes woman.
Joe Falowitz and Michael Greenbaum opened A Nose For
Clothes 25 years ago in a warehouse district near The Falls. Both were
24 years old at the time and Greenbaum's wife Freda a company vice
president and Falowitz' sister -- was expecting their first child.
However, that did not get in the way of opening what today is
considered one of the most recognized women's first-class fashion
operations.
"I had previously worked in retail with my
father," recalled company president Greenbaum. "He wanted to
go in another direction and so I decided to go out on my own. I was
scared at first and hoped for a lot of luck."
It looks as if luck has been on their side the whole time.
A Nose For Clothes has been recognized nationally by
Women's Wear Daily and is the recipient of the prestigious 1998 DIVA
Award for best women's specialty store in the Southeast.
An eighth store in the chain opened a year ago in
Alpharetta, Georgia, the company's second store in the Atlanta market.
A ninth store is slated to open in West Palm Beach at the City Place
Shopping Center later this year.
"Our original location was across from The Falls,
but we moved 12 years ago to the Suniland Shopping Plaza -- 11223
South Dixie Highway -- to project an image of first-quality instead of
being in the warehouse location," said Ms. Greenbaum. "We
really have wonderful clothes and our customers have been so loyal to
us. I mean, we dress three generations of women."
Joe and Michael attended Long Island University, where
they were fraternity brothers. Joe received a bachelor's degree in
political science and Michael took his degree in biology. Meantime,
Freda attended Queens College, where she earned a degree in fine arts.
The trio began to develop relationships both
professionally and personally that have helped them expand the
family-owned business into an upscale specialty chain.
"We are here to serve our customers," Ms.
Greenbaum said simply. "We like the specialty concept and would
like to continue the quality service we have been offering for 25
years now. We give our customers what they expect from us. It's all
about creating relationships that are long lasting and that takes
time."
A Nose For Clothes customers will find labels such as
Garfield & Marks, Renfrew, Jenne Maag, A'Nue Ligne, Carmen Marc
Valvo, ABS as well as many other key designers.
The chain's strategy for success focuses on special
events, direct mail, designer trunk shows, fashion seminars and
in-store promotions that engage customers.
The owner trio started the A Nose For Clothes
Philanthropic Fund, which is monitored by the Greater Miami Jewish
Federation Foundation. Money is collected and donated to different
charities, such as the United Way and the Make A Wish Foundation.
"Basically we use the money to help support
individuals, families and local agencies facing a variety of
challenges throughout the community," Greenbaum said.
A Nose For Clothes has been providing good value to
its customers and as a result it has become a way of life for many
women.
"I feel that my family is blessed," Ms.
Greenbaum said quietly. "We are all very proud to have a good
business. It shows that with a lot of hard work and a little luck it
can really work."
