Officer Adam Weinberg of the Pinecrest Police Department is a local who attended Coral Gables High School and graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. in criminal justice.

"I always knew I was interested in the law. Instead of practicing law I decided to see it first hand, experience it and help others as an officer," Weinberg said. "My goal is to have a positive effect wherever I work and to gain experience for the next step."

At the department, Weinberg is a patrol officer and a Field Training Officer (FTO). As such, he trains new officers on procedures and policies. As part of the still evolving department, as Weinberg sees it, he feels that he can contribute to its development.

"I like having that influence on the progression of the department and contributing to its growth," he said. "The opportunity to be part of that development is what attracted me to Pinecrest."

For Weinberg, the biggest challenge is making sure that he is handling all the patrol responsibilities and all of the responsibilities that go into the progression of the department. He believes that community policing, although not a new concept, is really catching on in Pinecrest and that it is a good thing.

"It allows the officers to take a proactive role in responding to residents' problems and complaints. We can try to work out a solution together," he said. "My greatest satisfaction is helping people find that solution."

As an FTO, Weinberg takes great pride in seeing someone he has worked with develop and become an independent officer.

"I have a lot of experience. If I can apply it by helping new officers and the community, I will be both challenged and satisfied," he said. "I see positive changes in the community, but we have to keep working."

Presently, Weinberg is enrolled at St. Thomas University in management and criminal justice. In his spare time he enjoys mountain biking and snow skiing.

"It keeps me busy," he said.
