Miami attorney and Pinecrest resident Eric Buermann has been named
general counsel to the Republican Party of Florida. The appointment
marked the first time ever that the party has appointed a full-time
general counsel.

Buermann, a veteran of Florida politics on both the state and
national levels, has been commissioner and vice chairman of the
Florida Elections Commission in Tallahassee for the last six years,
charged with enforcing the state's election and campaign laws.
Active in Republican politics since 1975, Buermann worked on the
1994 and 1998 gubernatorial campaigns on behalf of Jeb Bush. In 1996,
he worked with the Florida arm of Lamar Alexander's unsuccessful
presidential campaign. He also served as general counsel for the 1999
Florida Inaugural Committee, which organized and funded the
inauguration of Governor Bush and his lieutenant governor, Frank
Brogan.
As Florida GOP general counsel, Buermann will be responsible for
the Republican party's legal matters and serve as director of policy.
He will coordinate policy development with the governor's office, the
state cabinet and the state legislature, and oversee all Republican
special research activities.
Buermann is a member of several corporate boards of directors,
including Espirito Santo Bank. He is a cum laude graduate of Brown
University, received his MBA and JD degrees with honors from the
University of Miami, is married and has two daughters.
