Philip Francis Hair Designers in Pinecrest will hold
its first Hair-Cut-A-Thon on Sunday, April 16.

Phil Greene, owner of Philip Francis Hair Designers, and his talented
stylists will hold a Hair-Cut-A-Thon on Sunday, April 16 to benefit
breast cancer research.
The marathon trim-fest is part of a nationwide effort
by more than 1,800 hair salons to raise money for breast cancer
research.
"Breast cancer is a disease that has affected
many of our clients and some of our personnel," said Phil Greene,
owner of Philip Francis, located in the Dixie Point Shopping Center on
the corner of Ludlam and Dixie Highway. "We've seen the
devastating effects that breast cancer can have. Many of our clients
have come in for special hair and skin treatments while undergoing
chemotherapy, so we felt this was an important project to
support."
All the funds raised during the Hair-Cut-A-Thon will
be donated to the City of Hope research hospital. Founded in 1913, 90
percent of the hospital's patients are undergoing treatment for
different cancers. The hospital-research center was one of the first
in the nation to perform bone marrow transplants and it is currently
the third largest provider of such transplants in the world.
On Sunday, April 16, from 10 am to
6 pm, Philip Francis Hair Designers will offer "no frills"
haircuts to women, children and men for $10 or $20. All money taken in will
be donated to City of Hope and the salon is asking cut-a-thon participants
to make their checks payable to the hospital.
Appointments are preferred, but not required. Six stylists will be on hand,
donating their time and talent to benefit the drive and raise money for
breast cancer research.
"We'll give people the same quality of great looking hair cuts we are
known for, but we just won't be doing any chemical treatments or
up-dos," said Greene, who actively supports various charities and local
school groups throughout the community.
Greene's salon has been in business in Pinecrest for more than 14 years and
has developed a client list of more than 2,000 names.
"We're a very service-oriented salon and we have pride in the fact that
we take care of our clients as well as do our part in the community,"
Greene said.
Special activities during the hair-cut-a-thon include door prizes, raffles
and a silent auction of items ranging from artwork to gourmet dinners.
"We're looking forward to having some fun," Greene said.
