Are you a jazz aficionado? Do you aspire to be one? Maybe you're an Irish
expatriate hungry for traditional tunes? Or, perhaps you're just looking for
a place a little closer to home where you can have a good drink at a great
price, listen to live music and get to know your neighbors?

(Left to right) O'Casey's General Manager Dan McCulley, Part-owner Tom
Ingersoll, Bar Manger Dave Pack, Manager Aroughby Zimmerman, and
Bartender
O'Casey's Restaurant, Pinecrest's 'village tavern,'
has made several exciting additions to its entertainment line-up,
making it one of the premier venues in Miami-Dade to watch live
musical performances.
O'Casey's also has added several meal and drink
specials to make it an even more enticing place to stop in on your way
home, or to start your weekend, for that matter.
First of all, O'Casey's has continued to expand its
live music offering and now the stage is frequented by some of South
Florida's best jazz and Irish music talent in the evening Thursday
through Saturday.
There's music from 6 to 10 pm on Thursdays, Fridays
7-11 pm and Saturdays 7-11 pm. Typically, patrons can expect Jazz on
Thursdays and alternating Irish music and Jazz on Fridays and
Saturdays. But, it's always best to confirm before you stop in.
Recognizable names in jazz include Billy Marcus and
Eric Allison, Brenda Alford, Cheryl Fisher and Randall Dollohan,
Ariana Hall, Diane Bellow and Carlos Suris, and Vince Maggio. Maggio
incidentally is the head of the Jazz Music department at the
University of Miami.
Avalon, featuring female vocalist Tricanne Gharrihy
and guitarist Paddy Kelleghan, also plays O'Casey's frequently. The
two groups are among South Florida's top Irish performers and gained
fame for their long-running shows at John Martin's Pub in Coral
Gables.
Happy hour is another great time to stop by O'Casey's,
with house brand liquor drinks and most glasses of beer and wine
priced at just $2.50.
"It runs from 5 to 7 PM, Monday to Friday, which
features a complimentary
buffet with a sundry of delicious items, a delightful selection that treats
the palate, in addition to the drink specials," said General Manager
Dan McCulley. "Offering free drinks is actually a violation of state
law, so we discount prices instead.
"During certain sporting events we have similar specials,"
McCulley continued, "especially when a Miami team is playing. That's a
great time to drop in, have a beverage and grab a bite to eat."
Everyone can look forward to Sundays at O'Casey's, when they play host what
O'Casey's part-owner Tom Ingersoll says is the best deal in town.
"On Sunday's we have what we call our 'Omelet's and Jazz,' with live
jazz and a full buffet from 11 AM to 3 PM," Ingersoll said. "The
buffet features omelet's cooked to order, plus anything and everything else
you could possibly want.
"The buffet is a bargain at only $8.95," he said..
The next major event that O'Casey's will host is their St. Patrick's Day
party, which has been hugely popular. Ideally, they'd like to have a tent in
front of the restaurant, as well as major live entertainment. But, they're
not sure if that is going to be possible this year.
"The community loves St. Paddy's Day at O'Casey's," said McCulley,
"and it's always a pleasure to do something that is enjoyed so
widely."
But, St. Patrick's Day isn't the only time you can party at O'Casey's. In
fact, you can host your own. O'Casey's party room is available for special
events and several community groups, including the Pinecrest Business
Association, have taken advantage of it. It's great for rehearsal dinners,
birthday parties or anything else you might be interested in. There's also
an elaborate catering menu.
O'Casey's is located at 11415 South Dixie Highway in Pinecrest. To make
reservations or find out about their music schedule, you can contact the
restaurant by phone at 305 256 2667, or check out the web site at
www.ocaseysrestaurant.com, where you can fax or e-mail your order, get a
look at the menus and examine the month's special events.
