Dress up your driveaway with pavement texturing
By Ron Beasley

It’s called StreetPrint and they’re calling it an evolution in paving technology. It just may be the perfect product for Miami-Dade homeowners to dress up their drab, colorless asphalt driveways.

Ray Cruz displays one of the StreetPrint stamps Atlantic Paving Co. uses to create patterns in asphalt.

Offered by Atlantic Paving Co., 8309 NW 70 St., the new paving process will turn your drab old black asphalt driveway into a cool pastel shade and, with a unique stamping process, make it look like cobblestone, round stone, square stone, brick or random stone. It’s called pavement texturing and it’s relatively inexpensive.

"It’s a process similar to stamping concrete," said Ray Cruz, 35, vice president of Atlantic Paving. "A lot of times we can do it to the existing asphalt without adding any additional material. But, usually we add a one-and-a-half inch asphalt overlay and then stamp it and color it. We have borders, we have accents and we have many different patterns that we can put into it."

Base price starts at $2.50 per square foot and Cruz said it’s a quick, simple installation process, with no need to rip out the existing driveway, as is done for brick pavers or stamped concrete.

"We can go into a typical asphalt driveway, patch up any minor settling, overlay a new mat of asphalt, stamp it and color it and we’re out of there in three days," Cruz said.

There are eight earth-tone colors to choose from, ranging from dark to light browns, to deep reds, light reds and four different shades of gray. There are borders, which can be made a different color, and the surface is a non-slip gritty one that also repels oil from automobile engine leaks.

"The big emphasis with this process is that there is little or no maintenance," Cruz said. "You won’t have grass growing through it and oil just beads off it. And if the oil does stick, a little soap and water and a brush will take it right off."

Cruz said Street Print Pavement Texturing is a tested, patented process owned by Integrated Paving Concepts Inc., a 9-year-old Canadian company, and Atlantic Paving currently is the sole representative in South Florida. Atlantic Paving also does smooth concrete and paver work, and performs general upkeep and maintenance of commercial properties, such as seal coating and striping parking lots.
