Dirigo 31 a sturdy weekender with nice extras

BY LEE STEPHENS

If you require marble floors and ensuite baths in all staterooms, look elsewhere. But, if you want Maine-built practicality, take a long look at the Dirigo 31.

Dirigo 31 classic Maine-built practicality

This boat is nothing but what she appears to be -- a handsome, sturdy, seaworthy weekender for two that also can accommodate four or five companions for day trips.

The Dirigio 31 has a fine bow entry and its soft chine, 12-foot beam and semi-displacement hull guarantees a comfortable ride in all but the most unpleasant sea conditions. A 250hp Yanmar is standard equipment for power.

Though her lines say 'working boat,' her appointments indicate quite the opposite. The varnished teak and holly sole are complimented by plenty of teak trim, the galley is very well equipped, as is the enclosed head. The cabin also boasts double V-berths and stand-up headroom throughout.

There's a temptation to say they don't build'em like this anymore. And, while that's not the case, they certainly don't build very many as good as this one.

The Dirigo 31 is on display at Monty's Marina in Coconut Grove. For more information, call Southeast Marine Group at 305-860-9305.
