Camp Pinecrest will open again this summer at the
Pinecrest Presbyterian Day School and operate from July 3 through
August 4.
Camp Pinecrest will offer a wide range of activities
for youngsters, including sports, arts and crafts, science, cooking
and water activities. There will be weekly "in-house" field
trips -- exciting activities that come to the camp. But, what makes
the camp unique are the weekly camp themes that incorporate many of
the activities. This summer's themes include Western Week,
All-American Week, Sea Life Week and Get Wild Week.
Western Week will provide pony rides for the in-house
field trip. For cooking during Western Week, the children will prepare
smores -- delicious graham cracker, marshmallow and chocolate
sandwiches -- and trail mix.
During Magic Week, a magician will come to camp to
entertain the children. The campers also will learn magic tricks. For
Sea Life Week, animals will be brought in from a pet store. And,
during All American Week the youngsters will bake a huge cake and
decorate it to look like a giant American flag.
Camp Pinecrest also will provide a weekly water day, a
time devoted to playing in sprinklers and participating in other
outdoor water activities.
The camp, staffed by the same personnel that run the
Pinecrest Presbyterian Day School, has the philosophy that children
learn through play and activity. Camp Director Jane Mayor believes
this summer's activities will provide a fun learning experience for
the children.
Mayor also believes that summer camp is a great
experience for youngsters.
"The benefits of camp are playing with friends
and keeping children busy, active and learning" said Mayor.
"The name of the game is fun,"
Camp Pinecrest is open to children for age
two-and-a-half to those in the second grade. Children may attend camp
from one to five weeks. The hours are from 9 am to 3pm.
