Wellcraft Marine has opened a custom shop in its
Sarasota complex that will allow customers to have boats built and
delivered to their exact specifications.
"This is a high-tech operation," said Dave
Travis, manager the facility. "It's similar to the 'skunk works'
research and development arm of aircraft manufacturers because we are
going to be able to do things with a boat that our production lines
can't do.
"Many people who buy cruisers want special
layouts, unique cockpits, special engines, maybe even diesels,"
said Travis. "There are a lot of things we are equipped to do. We
even have highly-skilled cabinet makers ready to put their skills to
work."
