If it isn't hand-crafted, unique and elegant, you
won't find it at Margaux's.

Mother-daughter team Margarita and Cristina Courtney bring only unique
and handcrafted items to Margaux, their South Miami home furnishings
and décor shop
Margaux - A World Collection is an unusual shop in the
heart of South Miami that offers home furnishings, interior design and
exquisitely detailed accessories and gifts, from authentic Old World
antiques to fine reproductions. The ambiance of the shop appeals to
all five senses, with candles, potpourri, music, and the visual and
textural feast of extraordinary imported linens, rare wood and rattan
furnishings.
"Whether you want a gift for a friend or are
furnishing an entire room, we offer everything you need to create a
truly original look for your home," said Margarita Courtney,
owner and manager.
The wide selection at Margaux's includes everything
from tiny hand-blown glass perfume bottles to a large antique sleigh
bed from Indonesia. There are highly sought after Trapp candles, bath
products from France, linens from Italy, rattan furniture from the
Orient, Bernhardt's Vintage Collection of pieces influenced by the
designs of the 1930s, wrought iron screens, an antique sugar grinder
from the Phillippines to use as a side table, imported towels and bath
linens, an inlaid marquetry cabinet from Mexico, an antique chest and
mirror from Holland, hand-painted china from Italy, French Provincial
place settings, Morroccan silver and ceramic serving dishes, antique
woven baskets from the Orient, hand-quilted tablecloths from France,
hand-woven rattan chargers from Thailand, bath accessories from
England, antique chandeliers from Europe and Argentina, even framed
and hand-painted Victorian tin ceiling tiles.
"You put any of these things in your home and
people say, `Wow!'" said Margarita, who travels the world to
acquire unusual and distinctive pieces.
"We want our clients to have things that are
interesting and different," she added. "We don't believe in
being limited to matching sets of anything. We'd rather help our
clients create a look they like that is unique to them."
To help customers, the store offers a personalized
interior design service, handling everything from choosing paint for
the walls to coordinating the furniture and accessories. Margarita
will also visit a client's home for the initial consultation.
"If someone is looking for a certain piece, but
they don't quite know what they want, I'll meet with them in their
home to see their colors and styles in order to be better able to help
orient them toward the selections that are right for them," she
said.
The store combines an interesting mix of traditional
elegance with modern trends in style, reflecting the mother-daughter
partnership of its owners.
Cristina has a degree in art and several years
experience as a furniture buyer at ABC Carpet & Home in New York
City, while Margarita is a licensed interior designer with more than
15 years' experience. Margarita is also a Visual Coordinator, a new
profession that helps clients rearrange and redecorate their home
using the furniture and accessories they already own.
"This is a hot new trend and many of my clients
are calling upon us for this service," Margarita explained.
"It usually only takes us about one day to do a room and the
transformation is like night and day!"
In addition to serving individual customers, Margaux's
also caters to interior designers to help them create a unique look
for their clients.
The store's signature image is the palm tree; you'll
find it on towels and pillows, china tea cups and even on wrought iron
screens.
