59th Miami International Boat Show steers into South Florida Feb. 17-22

BY LEE STEPHENS

The Miami International Boat Show, one of the world's largest consumer marine exhibitions, will mark its 59th year in South Florida Feb. 17-22 at the Miami Beach Convention Center and Sealine Marine and Yachting Center.

The first Miami show of the new millennium will bring together more than 2,3000 exhibitors showcasing the newest and most unique powerboats, engines and accessories. Covering more than 2.5 million square feet of exhibition space, the show will also celebrate the return of an expanded special events area that includes performances by Twiggy the Waterskiing Squirrel and interactive activities for family enjoyment.

Show visitors will be able to participate in boating and fishing seminars and test-drive powerboats docked at the Sealine Marina and Yachting Center, formerly the Biscayne Bay Yachting Center.

"The Miami show sets the pace for the recreational marine industry," said Cathy Johnston, southern regional manager of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). "According to the results of a study we commissioned in 1999, the economic impact of the show far surpasses that of all others in the state. It is the premier event of the season, where consumers can experience boating excitement and find the best deals on the latest products from the major marine manufacturers and dealers."
