Golf lovers will want to check out Swing in Shops at Sunset

Golfers and people who love golf will want to check out Swing, a new store in the Shops at Sunset Place.

Raymond Kayal Jr. is shown with some of the fashion at Swing.

Swing, at 5701 Sunset Dr., Suite 120, offers a dozen different upscale clothing lines for both men and women, as well as hundreds of golf-oriented gift ideas.
"I hesitate to say 'golf and casual apparel' because many times when people see the word golf they think that this is just a store for golfers, which is not the case," said Raymond Kayal, executive vice president Sirgany Inc., owner of the store.
"It's more golf in terms of golf lifestyle and golf fashion, which is extended to more than just the golf course. Actually, we have everything for everyone and a lot of very strong selections."

Fashion lines carried in Swing included such

prestige names as Tommy Bahama, Ping, Bobby Jones, Greg Norman, Hugo Boss, Izod, Liz, Fila, Guess, LaCoste, Reebok and Como, with prices ranging from $30 for a casual pullover shirt to more than $200 for a lady's dress.
About 70 percent of the store is given to apparel, with the balance made up of a combination of accessories and golf-related gift items such as business card holders, picture frames, letter openers, book ends, martini glasses, jewelry, souvenir golf balls and tees, clocks, bronze statues, ice buckets, flasks, letter openers, hand-painted ceramic clown figurines, cigar ash trays, pen and pencil sets, golf ball bottle stoppers, napkin holders and a bucket of golf balls made into a desk lamp.

There's even a Pro Kennex graphite watch

that allows you to tell the time and score your golf game. That goes for $130, with two golf balls and a tee included in the package.

Kayal said Swing has been open for four months and he is pleased with the way the store has been received.

"The nicest thing is that we've already developed a fairly loyal clientele," he said. "The people who come in have received the store well and seem to be coming back to see what we have new, or to see something that they saw previously and now want to purchase.

"I think as we get into the season -- the Christmas season and then the tourist-vacation season in January, February and March -- that business is just going to continue to get stronger."

Kayal said Swing is one of Sirgany's first ventures away from Miami International Airport, where the company has operated various types of gift and fashion shops for the past 40 years.

"We wanted to come up with a couple of stores that identified us," he said. "Right now, most of our stores don't have a specific identity, they don't have a name. If I told you Sirgany, unless you were familiar with the operations of our company, you wouldn't place it with a store.

"So one of the ideas was to create an image, or a couple of images, that would represent our company," he explained. "And Swing is one of our first attempts at branding."
