Mail
Boxes Etc. of Palmetto Bay is offering area schools and Parent Teacher
Associations a deal they can’t refuse, a 10 per cent rebate.
“It’s
very simple,” said Hank Shechter. “A parent comes in and ships a few
packages and the total bill is $50. We’ll give 10 percent back to the
school or its PTA.” Shechter
said all a PTA or school must do to qualify for the program is register with
his Mail Boxes Etc. store at 13615 S. Dixie Hwy. He urged PTA officers and
school officials to call him and set up an appointment. “I’ll
meet with them and sign them up for the program,” he said. “Then, when a
parent comes into the store and ships a package with us, tells us he’s a
member of that PTA, we credit 10 percent of the total bill to that PTA
account. At the end of the month, we total it all up and cut a check to the
designated PTA.” Shechter
said the program has been tried very successfully in other areas of the
country and noted that a Texas school is realizing an average of $1,500 a
month through its PTA members’ participation in a similar Mail Boxes Etc.
promotion. “Even
if a school gets $500 a month from this program, it’s like found money,”
he said. “And, it doesn’t cost our customers anything more because
they’re coming in here to ship something anyway. They just have to mention
the school they want us to credit. It’s that simple.” Mail
Boxes Etc. is a national chain of franchised stores offering individual mail
boxes, mailing, packing, shipping, faxing and copying services. “The
idea is the convenience,” Shechter said. “You can come in with a letter
and we can notarize it, copy it, fax it, then go ahead and ship it out
FedEx, UPS or overnight — whatever you want — all from the same place
and in a matter of minutes.” Shechter
also said that soon there will be no surcharge for mailing a U.S. Post
Office letter or package through Mail Boxes Etc. and that consumers will be
able to purchase stamps at the same price as at the U.S. Post Office. “The
post office is understanding now that we are not in competition and that, in
fact, we can save them money,” he said. “Soon, it’ll be one-stop
shopping for Mail Boxes Etc. customers.” Mail
Boxes Etc. is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. For
