Community Newpapers endorses Jimmy Morales for commissioner

By Grant Miller - Publisher

For the past four years the residents of our community have been represented on the Miami-Dade County Commission by Jimmy Morales. Throughout his term, Commissioner Morales has kept his promises to the voters of District 7 and delivered proven results.

Jimmy Morales

Jimmy Morales has sponsored a number of reform initiatives to clean up local government, while continuing to work to restore public trust. These initiatives include comprehensive campaign finance reform, creation of the Inspector General and the Ethics Commission, and reforming the absentee ballot procedure; always sending a strong message that this is a government for the people.

Jimmy Morales has increased efficiency in Miami-Dade County by championing efforts that have cut government waste by more than $9 million. He has improved our local economy by increasing funding for job training and job creation, securing over $2.2 million in Community Development block grants for District 7.

Jimmy Morales has made government accessible to the people in the last four years, holding town hall meetings throughout the community, as well as a televised electronic town hall meeting. He maintains two district offices and established Saturday office hours to facilitate meetings with constituents.

I would like to take this opportunity to endorse the re-election of Jimmy Morales as county commissioner for District 7. I believe that under his leadership the citizens have gained a strong voice on the county commission. It takes leadership to see our community as it could be, then set a direction and move Miami-Dade County toward it. Jimmy Morales has a deep understanding of our community. I know he will continue to bring intelligence, integrity and independence to the commission.

On Tuesday, September 5, let's keep Jimmy Morales working for us.
