Summer is nearing an end, but Jennifer and Jayson Delacruz say they had a great time playing ball in the Howard Palmetto Khoury League at Suniland Park. Jayson, 12, who attends Palmetto Middle School, now travels with a youth baseball team put together by one of the Howard Palmetto coaches and plans to join another youth league baseball team in the fall. Meantime, Jennifer, 9, a softball player and a Howard Drive Elementary School student, is devoting her time to cheerleading practice at Coral Reef Park. The Howard Palmetto Khoury League baseball season runs from late January to early June, fields 100 teams in 13 divisions ­ including four girls' softball divisions ­ and 1,200 youngsters participate annually.
