'Pig-Stick' displays flags, deters birds

BY LEE STEPHENS

New flag mount scares
birds from rigging

Sail boaters can now display yacht club burgees or state flags and at the same time discourage birds from perching on signal lights and wind vanes.

Davis Instruments of Hayward, California offers the new Yachtsman's Pig-Stick, a lightweight, fiberglass flagstaff that is easily raised to the masthead.

Boaters simply attach their favorite flag to the split rings provided with the Pig-Stick. The second lowest clip is for securing a halyard and the lowest clip is for a downhaul line.

After hoisting the Pig-Stick to the masthead, the boater pulls on the downhaul to invert the burgee or flag so it flies above the wind vane, mast light or other sensor equipment. At this point, the flag will fly in the face of even the most stubborn bird. The Pig-Stick also comes with a 'no-birds' burgee and accommodates flags up to an 18-inch hoist. To help boaters with proper flag etiquette, Davis includes some insightful tips in the packaging.

Davis Instruments offers an extensive selection of unique power boating, sailing, fishing and outdoor gear, as well as precision weather instruments.

Suggested retail price of the Yachtsman's Pig-Stick is $27.95. For more information, please contact Davis Instruments, 3465 Diablo Ave., Hayward, CA 94545, or email the company at info@davisnet.com.
