Jamba Juice, a national health food restaurant featuring blended-to-order smoothies, fresh-squeezed juices, hot soups and healthy snacks, recently opened its first Florida location in The Greenery Center near Dadeland, 7704 Kendall Drive.

Founded in California 10 years ago by Kirk Perron, a then-27-year-old entrepreneur and health enthusiast, Jamba Juice is dedicated "to enriching the daily experience of its customers through the life-nourishing qualities of fruits and vegetables."

The idea for the store developed when Perron, an avid cyclist, craved a quick, healthy and portable meal after his long rides and began preparing his own smoothies at home made from fresh fruits and vegetables. He soon realized that he wasn't alone in his desire for a healthy alternative to fast food and opened his first store.

"Our philosophy is based on making it easier for people to live a healthy life and our passion is to provide the best possible fruits and vegetables, and then blend or squeeze them on the spot, made to order, with no added sugars, preservatives or artificial flavors," Perron said. "We think of our customers as friends and will offer them no less than the best."

"Jamba means 'to celebrate' and that's what we do every time we take an order," he said. "We make our blenders dance and put the party in your cup."

Jamba Juice features freshly blended-to-order, 24-ounce fruit and juice smoothies, including such favorites as Strawberries Wild, Coldbuster, Razzmatazz, Coffee Moo'd, Orchard Oasis, Peanut Butter Moo'd and Mango-A-Go-Go, as well as hearty and nutritious hot soups such as Jamba's Chicken Noodle, Santa Fe Corn and Beyond Broccoli.

There are Jamba Breads and pretzels that are high in nutrition and low in fat and calories, as well as freshly squeezed juices including orange, carrot, lemon and wheat grass.

Juice Boosts are special nutritional supplements of blends of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and herbs that can be added to any juice drink or smoothie. Customers can choose from formulations created to improve digestive health, enhance women's health, build muscles and boost immune defense.

There are more than 300 Jamba Juice stores throughout the U.S., with a national expansion being organized by former Florida resident and past president of Burger King North America, Paul Clayton.

"Florida promises to be a terrific market for Jamba Juice, thanks to the year-round warm weather and outdoor lifestyle, as well as the widespread health and fitness orientation of residents here," Clayton said. "We know that people want great tasting food that they can feel good about eating and we intend to meet that demand with superior service and outstanding products."

To mark its Florida debut, Jamba Juice donated a portion of the proceeds from its grand opening on June 10 to Baptist Hospital's Emergency Care Center expansion project. The company plans to open 50 more stores throughout South Florida within five years.

Jamba Juice offers a catering and special event program, which includes delivery of volume orders to corporate meetings, school functions, parties and events. The restaurant will provide Jamba tents or Jamba GoGo Carts to serve fresh fruit smoothies at special functions such as community, church or synagogue fairs and festivals, sporting events, company picnics and family reunions.
