Florida tri-athletes are getting ready for the ninth annual
Huntington's Disease Triathlon, slated for August 6 on Key Biscayne.
Starting time is 7 a.m. for the grueling USA
Triathlon-sanctioned event, which will begin with a half-mile Atlantic
Ocean swim off the key, followed by a 10-mile bike ride along
Rickenbacker Causeway and finish with a three-mile run through Crandon
Park.
There are several age groups and classes for men and
women, ranging from 14 and under to 70 and over. There will be an
awards ceremony following the race and refreshments will be provided,
tee shirts handed out and prizes awarded.
Athletes may register in advance for the event on the
Internet at www.active.com.
Pre-registration is also available at Runner's High, 11209 S. Dixie
Highway and at the Bicycle and Fitness Store, 6140 S. Dixie Highway.
Last minute registration is available at the host Sonesta Beach Resort
on August 5 from 1-5 p.m.
The cost to participate for non Tri-Fed members is
$53. After August 2 the cost rises to $58. The fee is five dollars
less for members.
All proceeds from the event will benefit research into
Huntington's Disease, an inherited degenerative brain disorder
resulting in the loss of mental capability and physical control. This
triathlon reportedly has raised more than $500,000 for Huntington's
Disease research since the race began eight years ago.
