Street Sign Identification Program

BY LESLIE BOWE
Vice Mayor

One of the many elements of Pinecrest's comprehensive development master plan adopted in February, 1999 was the establishment of the street sign identification program as a means of promoting Village identity, knowledge of its boundaries and a sense of community.

A month later, the Village Council directed the manager to proceed with the project and budgeted funds for a new sign system with decorative posts. The council appropriated $240,000 for the project during budget hearings the following September.

At a workshop this past May, the Village Council further discussed the project and accepted the offer of Guidance Pathway Systems, one of two firms submitting bids for the project, to build three prototype signs at no charge to the Village.

The three prototypes were installed last month at the following intersections:

* 112th Street and 67th Avenue
* 104th Street and 57th Avenue
* 120th Street and Moss Ranch Road

The new sign system, which conforms to Department of Transportation standards, will provide for better visibility, beautification of Village roadways and a sense of identity for Pinecrest.

The Village Council will again discuss the project on September 12 at 7 p.m.
