You would be hard-pressed to find another real estate
broker and developer as committed to South Florida as the Suchman
Companies, which has been one of the principal players in the
explosive growth of Kendall in particular and South Miami-Dade in
general.

President Larry Suchman at the Suchman Retail Group offices.
"The Suchman Companies," said Suchman Retail
Group President Larry Suchman, "were founded by my father, Cliff
Suchman, who is widely known and highly regarded as the real pioneer
in the Kendall-Dadeland area. He was the one who truly recognized that
area's potential."
However, it was Larry Suchman who founded Suchman
Retail Group, a branch of the Suchman Companies, seven years ago. The
Suchman Retail Group was designed to be a boutique firm with very
specific goals and an exclusive client list. Suchman believes the
company has achieved that goal.
"We really wanted to focus on several
things," Suchman said. "Property leasing and management,
tenant representation, land acquisition, brokerage, developmental
consulting and development itself."
Currently, the Suchman Retail Group owns seven
shopping centers and manages two, eight are in Miami-Dade and one is
in Boca Raton.
"Our most recent project was the Shoppes at
Dadeland," he said, "and it is fairly typical of the type of
work that we do. We put the project together, representing a national
development group. We got the land package together, did the leasing
and served as the development consultants for the project."
Other sites include the Tony Roma's shopping center --
or Dadeland North Center -- at Ludlam and S. Dixie Highway, the King's
Bay Shopping Center, the Boca Glades Shopping Center and the Kendall
157 Plaza.
On the tenant representation side, Suchman Retail also
works with a veritable who's who of established and up-and-coming
retail chains.
"We represent national tenants looking for new
store locations," Suchman said. "Right now, for instance, we
are focusing on Linens 'n Things, Just for Feet, Old Navy, Barnes and
Noble and AMC Theatres."
Suchman, who grew up in the Pinecrest area, seems
impassioned when he speaks of the area's assets, particularly so when
discussing the value of building retail sites in close proximity to
the Pinecrest area.
"Pinecrest is, from a retail standpoint, as good
as it gets," he said. "The Pinecrest citizen is the ultimate
customer, affluent and active. Retailers want to be in a location that
serves the Pinecrest customer, even if it's not necessarily in the
Pinecrest proper, which is great for residents and merchants already
in the area because that translates into continuing appreciation of
real estate values."
Most recently Suchman represented Azhar's Rugs in Pinecrest, which
will move into the old Luria's space in the Wild Oats Shopping Center
next to the Pet Supermarket on SW 120 St. and US 1.
Suchman said that although Suchman Retail group has
worked primarily in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach in the past,
the company has begun to expand into Vero Beach, Orlando, Tampa and
Jacksonville.
But, in spite of the expansion, Suchman insists that
the company has remained true to the philosophy that from inception
has set it apart from competitors.
"We offer a lot of services that national
brokerages can't," he said, "being that we're developers as
well as brokers. Since we are a small, boutique operation, when
companies deal with us they get the benefit of all our expertise,
while at the same time deal only with our principals."
