Camilo Layne is a new officer on the Pinecrest Police force, joining the
department in December, and comes to the Village from the Broward Sheriff's
Office, where he was a corrections officer.

Officer Camilo Layne
Layne was born in Balboa, Panama while his father was in the Army and
stationed in the Canal Zone. He came to United States in 1978 and grew up in
Texas, spending his early years in El Paso and Houston. He graduated from
Houston's Sharpstown High School and went on to the University of Texas,
where he majored in English.
Layne, 28, joined the Air Force in 1993, a move that set in motion the
wheels that would lead him to a career in law enforcement.
"I was a Security Policeman in the Air Force," he said. "I
served all four years of my enlistment at Maxwell Air Force Base in
Montgomery, Alabama."
Though late deciding on a career path, Layne seems committed to doing
what it takes to climb the ladder of law enforcement success.
"Hopefully, I'll be detective one day and maybe even be chief,"
he said with a smile. "But, first things first; be a detective
one day, then keep my fingers crossed."
Upon discharge from the military, Layne moved to South Florida so his wife
could be near her parents, who had retired to area.
Layne and wife, Yara, have two young children, a boy, 5, and a girl, 6. He
says he enjoys going to the beach, playing basketball and jogging in his
free time.
