Jesus Reyes is one of the newer additions to the Village Parks and Recreation Department staff, working as a park service aide.

Reyes, 30, began working at Suniland Park in January and puts in about 20 to 25 hours a week.

"I make sure that the fields are clean, the park is clean," he explained. "Basically, it's maintenance of the park and safety, when it comes to hazardous stuff."

Reyes says Parks & Recreation Department manager Jose Diaz told him about the park service aide position available with the Village and he decided to apply for it.

Reyes, 30, resides in Southwest Miami with wife Maria and three children Raul, 15, Mayra, 12, and Jesus III, 7. He was born in Puerto Rico and came to the United States at age 12. He attended Robert E. Lee Junior High, graduated Miami Jackson Senior High in 1987 and went on to Miami-Dade Community College for a year. Reyes works full time for Service On Site, a firm that supplies personnel to companies or organizations needing office help.

"We do office work," he explained, "like faxing, copying, mailing; anything that has to do with the office. I'm stationed at Temple Beth Am and I take care of all the copying for the temple and the school. It's about 250,000 copies a month."

Reyes says he enjoys writing and has an interest in science fiction.

"I have a few stories to tell," he said with a smile. "I've never been published, but maybe one day I will find a publisher that would like them."

Reyes also enjoys cycling, but says his time is limited these days.

"Right now, it's kind of hard with the part-time job," he said. "But, when I have the time, I like to go cycling and do a few miles at a time."
