The
Pinecrest Business Association has become a living, breathing,
official organization with real bylaws, a functioning board of
officers and directors and a paid-up membership of about 10 percent of
Pinecrest's businesses. Not bad for a concept that was only an idea a
few months ago.
At this point, this is where we're headed, as stated
in our bylaws:
"The objective of the Pinecrest Business
Association shall be to promote business and business relationships
among members; represent the business interests within the Village of
Pinecrest in village politics, government activities and community
affairs; and provide community service."
We have already laid out agendas for the next few
meetings that definitively address those objectives. On April 18,
Florida Savings Bank will host a networking event in which all member
businesses will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and
their products or services to fellow members. In May, Mitchell Panter,
our vice president of government relations, will chair a meeting where
the membership will be encouraged to express views regarding how we
interact with the government of the Village of Pinecrest. Finally, we
are investigating ways we might benefit the community as a whole
through various community service programs.
The formation of the Pinecrest Business Association
has resulted in the unification of Pinecrest businesses. No longer is
each and every business acting alone in community affairs. The
long-term objective is to have unity and cooperation among business,
residential and governmental interests. It is clearly our goal to make
Pinecrest one of the most desireable communities in which to live and
work.
